Conquer the Corridor –Presenter Program
Priority One and the Cedar Rapids Downtown District are excited to announce the launch of Conquer the Corridor Presenter Program. The Presenter Program exists to support the efforts of both organizations in delivering the Conquer the Corridor presentation to the community at-large. The mission of Conquer the Corridor is provide community members with resources related to quality of life amenities in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City region, and encourages active engagement in the community. As the grass roots program continues to grow, the organizations are looking for volunteers who are interested in being a part of the program by participating in the presentations. Conquer the Corridor Mission: The mission of Conquer the Corridor is provide community members with resources related to quality of life amenities in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City region, and encourages active engagement in the community.
About Priority One: Priority One is the non-profit economic development division of the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce. This organization often interacts with businesses and workforce that is new to the community. Therefore, it is imperative for Priority One to have a venue to share quality of life information with the greater public community.
About Cedar Rapids Downtown District: The Cedar Rapids Downtown District is non-profit 501(c)6 organization supported by Downtown Partners and the SSMID (Self Supported Municipal Improvement District). This organization exists to cultivate and promote a dynamic downtown through business advocacy, riverfront enhancement, community development, sustainable infrastructure, flood recovery and first rate event programming for the benefit of the greaterCedar Rapidscommunity. A strong downtown core is a fundamental ingredient to the strength of the Corridor as a whole which is why the Downtown District supports Conquer the Corridor.
The Role of a Conquer Presenter: Conquer presenters are individuals who are active, engaged, and involved community members who are comfortable sharing their own personal stories of how and why they have chosen to make the Corridor their home. When introduced, he or she may talk about their employment or commitment to groups and or organizations, but most importantly be introduced as a presenter who is passionate about educating audiences on all aspects of the Corridor.
The Presenter Process: Community members who wish to be a Conquer Presenter will be required to complete an application. The application is reviewed by staff at Priority One and the Cedar Rapids Downtown District staff and the applicant will be notified on the status of their request within two weeks of submission.
Partner Financial Support: Conquer the Corridor is funded through Priority One and Cedar Rapids Downtown District. Partners are not required to financially contribute to the program but are asked to provide their own transportation to scheduled presentations.
Partner Scheduling: All scheduling of Conquer the Corridor presentations are handled by Priority One and Cedar Rapids Downtown District staff. Staff will reach out to fellow presenters to coordinate dates and times that presenters are available. Presentations may be scheduled for weekdays, weekends and various hours.
Conquer the Corridor Presenter Training: All Conquer the Corridor presenters must go through a short training before becoming a partner. It is important that partners complete the following:
1) See the full Conquer the Corridor presentation (1.5 hours) (including explanations of each slide)
2) Understand initiatives of Priority One (30 minutes)
3) Understand initiatives of Cedar Rapids Downtown District (30 minutes)
4) Walk through the website, finding information and resources (15 minutes)
5) How to handle follow up requests (5 minutes)
Please allow 3 hours for training. Training will be scheduled in groups/teams when possible. However, individual training will be accommodated based on the schedules of the partners.
